I’ve led the transformation of essential customer experiences for one of the most prolific brands in the world, helped launched Walmart’s first AI support chat and still love those XS feature enhancements (they often make the biggest impact, don’t they?).

04 Prototyping the future of work with Airbnb





Role Team Lead | Content Design | Research



OpportunityOur team was challenged with elevating the average “conference cocktail hour” to an event that was designed, intentional, and impactful on behalf of Airbnb for Work. 

I managed the project and led a team of designers to create the user flow and overall experience, including key touchpoints for the event itself and communication with its guests.




Goals:

  • To create an enriching and memorable networking dinner for VIP guests using an Airbnb for Work location.
  • To build brand awareness for IA Collaborative.
  • To strengthen our relationship with Airbnb for Work client and deliver insights into their live-prototyped value proposition.

We intended to transform an event into an experience.


ProcessAfter RSVP’s were made, I interviewed invitees to learn more about what makes a networking event great.

Using the 5E Experience Design Model and insights from my interviews, our team brainstormed touchpoints throughout the flow of the event.

Once the experience flow was confirmed, the design team created deliverables from pins to menus to pamphlets under a sub-brand of IA Collaborative.

Insights:

  • Professionals want enriching experiences at work events – they want to avoid “fun guilt.”
  • Guests want to think as little as possible about the logistics.
  • Professionals want to know what their peers are doing. They’d prefer deep conversations with fewer people.





The team created warm and inviting deliverables, using content and design to create moments of delight throughout the event experience.



Outcome


We executed a unique dinner experience at an Airbnb location in Austin for 16 VIP professionals from brands including Starbucks, Volvo, Shutterstock, 7Eleven, Mars, HP, and more. The event infused insights from our interviews with design elements to create flow throughout the space, inspire conversation, and build community in a single evening.


Results:

  • 2 million dollar RFPs for future work
  • A framework to recreate and evolve elevated event experiences
  • Insights for future client development implications
